OK guys, seeing as there was such a fuss over "how many pages" u wrote and whether it was quality or quantity that won out in the end... we hav our results.
so, all those who bragged of their 28 page essays and continuously compared their page amounts with each other....

who wins the hsc in the end? quality over quantity, or visa versa?

i had an average of bout 7 pages for essays in english advanced... several more than that... and ended up with 83 as my 3 marks 4 that subject. both kinda average.....

how bout all those way out extremes, the huge essays verse those who kept tellin us that it was quality that mattered????

post away :p

i think it is both. for english i got 88 and that was doing a booklet+ for each. in geo i used 5 booklets over 3 essays. i improved my mark too but am not sure if the qualitydid much for that.

Quality for sure!

I averaged around 7 pages per essay [medium sized writing], and I got 91.
Not saying that writing more isn't a good thing, but some people are far too verbose for their own good.

Quantity. Most definitely Quantity. They don't care about what you write. Sometimes, I think they don't even Look at the essays, they just look at the word counts.

Definately quantity. And pre-prepared responses.
Got me 93/100 for Advanced and 49/50 for Extension.

AOS

Section 1: 7.5
Section 2: 7.25
Section 3: 13

Advanced:

Module 1: 14
Module 2: 10.5
Module 3: 12.5

I wrote 39 pages all up in Extension English, 20 for the essay and 19 for the creative.

Advanced English - 99/100 externally and 97/100 overall
I wrote on average 10-12 pages per 40 minute essay, 7-8 words per line. I don't think I write a lot, but I write *enough* and in the end, I would say it's adequate quantity coupled with good quality that works.

Extension English - 50/50 overall and externally
I wrote 17 pages for the essay component and 12 pages for the 'creative' component. Once again 7-8 words per line and once again I would say adequate quantity and I suppose, good quality.

Didnt do much work in English....didnt even watch bladerunner or read King Lear. I just memorised three really good essays as accurately as possible and got 87 which im happy with, although a 90 would have been nice

I got 94 for modern historyu, and I must have used up around 6 or 7 booklets...I even used a booklet for the WWI Section! lol. Anyway my friend wrote the same amount as me, and he got 93, but I guess its hard to say whether the result is due to the amount of words in our essays or the content, i think its more about 75% content and 25% quantitiy...

I think a mix of both quality and quantity. You can't just write crap... but alot does make you look better, I think. I can't remember how much I wrote, but it was a fair bit. I think 2 booklets per essay, and 3 for extension 1. I have fairly large writing, though. But it got me 96 and 47 respectively.

averaging a booklet and a half per essay (and two booklets and a half for the hour-long ext1 essay) got me 97 and 49 respectively. it was pretty good quality though if i may say so myself

If I remembered correctly, I wrote no more than 15 pages for Area of Study and 20 for Paper 2, but I think half of the Paper 2 was probably random stuff that made little sense when you read it back.

And I got a surprising 85 for that.

I didn't write very much at all... like max 6, ave 5, only 3 for my creative writing. Yet still I managed to do well by my own standard.
I do Advanced and failed all of my exams and most essays but then we figured out that I really was a spacca that couldn't physically write very much --> English AoS Exam was my first ever full length typed essay let alone exam (The above numbers are equivalent written)

As I said, I didn't write much, even typed, but I managed to get 83 :D

My Point?

High Quality will get you as far as you need to go, but quantity can help you get further (ie 90+)

quality quantity.
The only reason I did nearly as well as I did in english is that for all but two of my essays I wrote a lot, but it was good stuff.
Then Gwen Harwood came along and fucked me over completly. *sigh*

Like laurie, booklet and a half for most sections of anything (except in 3 english where more was applicable). That got me 95 and 48, so it must work. =P

welll one of ma frends always wrote like 10 pages for a 40 minute exam...on the other hand, lazy me only wrote like 3 pages which were pure knowledge n content based....well guess wot....we'd both end up getting the same marks sumtimes i even did better then her!

my point: quality not 20 pages of bull gets u good marks....which means less pain in ur hands!
