Are the CSSA trail papers normally harder than the actual HSC exam papers?

I personally disagree in regards to the Mathematics paper.

I personally found Q 10 of the Mathematics paper atrociously easy in comparison to real HSC Q 10.

In my experience of 17 years of HSC teaching - No.

The basis for this comment is the fact that the questions are frequently taken from previous HSC papers or appear on HSC papers later, or in the case of Ancient History a couple of years ago in the same year the same questions were on both the CSSA and HSC papers.

Why they appear harder is the fact that they actually are at the HSC standard in August but the HSC exams are sat in Ootober/November - another two months of preparation.

I looked at the Chemistry CSSA 2008 Trial... and compared it with the Independent 2008... the Independent paper was much harder. It was definitely harder than the HSC would be.. good preparation I guess, but it was 35% weighting for us, so could affect my ranking big time.

Aaron, it depends on what independent paper your school uses. CSSA this year at first I thought was much easier than the independent my school bought but when actually doing it, I found one thing: there aren't as many band 6 questions in the Inde as in CSSA (to be correct, CSSA has two 7 mark and one 5 mark questions while Inde has only 1 or 2 4 mark qs)and tho their (Inde's) questions are a bit weird with crazy diagrams, the specific questions all lie on the easy parts.
