Unless I'm blind and missed it, nobody mentioned giving the exact amount of change. I make an effort to not wait for change haha. Unless I'm getting one of them 4c fuel docket things.

Thanks to the lady who paid 20 dollars in change when she found out that i was running low on change and i couldnt order any because the service manger was outside having a smoke. I had like 20 people in express and i was the only one working them. And i looked down the other end of the store and there is no one queing on one of the registers there. So this lady pointed out to the customers real bluntly (after i told them a million times there was a register open). Big thx to that customer.

Its nice to know you are appreciated when you go out of your way to help a customer.

- There was once when the lines got really long whilst I was doing loose stock, and I saw that there was mostly people with a few items, and one lady with a massive trolley full of stuff who was about third in one of the lines.
I went up to her and asked her if she wanted to come to my register which will be opening now, full escorting her trolley n shit.. and she looked so happy for some reason, and said, "Now THAT's service with a capital S!"

- I'm also in charge of serving people with groceries, and people that wait at the kiosk for cigarettes. One day it was uber busy with the grocery lines really long and we had about 5-6 people waiting at the kiosk. People who have been waiting in the grocery line tend to be grumpy when it looks like it's their turn, but I turn around a serve smokes...... but there was this one guy who was uber cool and polite about it.. Usually I'm super apologetic to those in the grocery line who wait awhile, but this middle aged man was a full brown nose hahahhaha
I was saying how I was sorry for making him wait, then he goes "noooo no no, it's a pleasure watching you...... serve, you're so efficient, yet so polite!"
I got creeped out when he paused at "watching you........" before he finished the rest of his sentence.

But it's so awesome when you get people that understand and appreciate you're doing your best to provide fast and courteous service. It's like a breath of fresh air compared to the ones who look grumpy because they've had to stand in line for 2 minutes.

I had an American customer a couple days ago who told me, "You're a great packer!" Haha...I've only been working as a checkout chick for a few weeks and it totally made my evening for her to say that. And on Friday, there was an old man who told me that I gave great service lol. Whee!! :D Oh and I agree with some of the above posts, I LOVE customers who tell me they want to pack their own stuff. Makes my job so much easier. :p

For quite a while I would be the only person on big checkouts during Saturday mornings until 9am, consequently I served the same customers week after week. There was this one woman, in her 30s I'd say, who would always tell me that she liked my bracelet. This continued for about three weeks. But everytime it was really nice of her.

Not that I miss Saturday opens though.....

customers who appreciate that you've gone the extra mile but still couldn't find something after 30 mins of frantic rummaging.

I work at Hungry Jack's as a Team Leader and usually run front counter and drive-thru.

Just the other day, I handed an order to a customer and he accidentally knocked over his drink onto the counter, making a huge mess. I said it wasn't a problem and that I would clean it up for him. Then a lady came up to the counter to order something and looked at the mess saying, "you spilt the drink again, huh?" I know that sounds mean but she was really nice about it. I replied that no, it wasn't me for once, even if I am the clumsiest person that works there. She told me to keep chanting to myself "I will not spill it, I will not spill it". Sounds weird, but it really made my day. =]

And every Tuesday night when I work, a particular man comes through drive-thru and orders a Spicy Chicken Baguette and large fries. Even if it's uber-busy and he's been waiting seven minutes for his order, I sincerely apologise for the wait and he always says, "no worries, I can see that you're really busy. Don't get too stressed!" with a big smile on his face. It's great seeing him on Tuesdays!

EDIT: To the lady who gave me a $5 tip when she was waiting eight minutes on a Vegie Baguette in drive-thru, since the boys didn't listen when I called it over the microphone and was really apologetic: thank you so much, you bought my dinner for me. It was much appreciated after a busy and long shift!

So thanks to those customers who are patient and don't yell at the girls on front counter because their burgers are taking forever to prepare...it's never our fault, it's the boys out back who can't make burgers! You are all wonderful and a pleasure to serve. =]

Today there was this woman who wanted smokes.. and she asked for Horizon Red 20s. I told her the smallest pack we got was 30s.

Then she gets bitchy and tells me that most people around here are poor and they can't afford large packs, and tells me to propose to the manager that we sell smaller packs and stock out tobacco in 30g packs too.

And there I was trying to serve the next customer [and a massive line] and just going 'yep yep yep'.. I mean, as if I don't know that.. when we god rid of the smaller decks I was wondering why too... but whatever... then she left really pissed..

Then the man I was serving was like, "If you're so poor, you should stop smoking"

And I was like, "Damn straight".
