hey we're currently using the old anologe tv antenna reception

except its' really really really dodgy reception

i was wondring - if we buy a digital set top box (ie digital tv), does this mean that our reception would be crystal clear? coz i read sumwhere that it runs through the antenna, so i dont see how it could fix our problems at all...

Yes digital TV does come through your antenna, but since the broadcast is digital, it is not prone to certain types of intereference. Digital broadcasts can also carry more information to give a clearer picture.

"Crystal clear" would be subjective.

That's correct. We use foxtel to view channels two, seven, nine and ten as the picture has no interference whatsoever. Digital TV is just a supposedly clearer image.

so even tho iv got dodgy antenna reception, if i connect my tv to a digital set top box, then the reception will be the equivalent of cable tv reception?

Either that or you get no reception.

We've got a set top box - and it improved the quality of most channels significantly!
Storms interfere with the digital signal though, just like the pay tv - but it dosnt cut out like the pay does.
Make sure u get a fairly decent box as well, as some of the 'no name' or generic ones are poor in video quality. We've got a Panasonic one, and its been going strong for at least a year now.
