There are so many generalisations....

Going out instead of studying doesn't automatically mean you have good social skills.
Playing sport doesn't automatically mean you have good social skills.
Being bright doesn't automatically translate to great marks and vice versa.
Bad marks don't automatically mean you're more sociable/not bright.
And so on....

The only thing that is certain is the bell curve....people who are extremely naturally bright and so most likely excel whilst also having innate charisma and the capacity for good social skills etc are relatively rare. Those people are the ones who generally get first pick for jobs.

Therefore the majority (but obviously not all) people who get 95+ because they're bright are going to lack social skills others have. That's the only conclusion we can really make.
Why?

But then we can get into the whole nature over nurture discussion and that'll be a nightmare. I'm pretty sure what I said is what's generally accepted.

If you were smart enough you'd know it is hereditary to a largely measurable extent? There are exceptions (as with anything!) and if you actually read my comment properly I'm against sweeping generalizations and readiy accept there'd be sociable or non sociable (what exactly is your definition?) people who got every mark under the sun etc. I stand by what I wrote.

it's not.

Please take a single elective unit in psych at uni.

not really. It's more of an environmental thing.
Intelligence (IQ, whatever you want to call it) is mainly an environmentally influenced trait, and since you're someone who believes all intelligent people are lacking social skills I think it's safe to assume you're wrong and need to shut your face and maybe just get smarter. :spin:

One of the stupidest assumptions in this thread is that high achievers are basements with zero social skills. From what I have observed, that is a huge misconception. Obviously, there are basements who do really well, but I think they are in the minority of high achievers. Nonetheless, that being said, this is an inductive argument based on personal observation - but I think it was worth mentioning.

I agree with this, and I think the poster(s) saying that are mostly only saying it because they aren't smart and are trying to make excuses for that, maybe instead of making excuses they should just work harder if they aren't satisfied with their results or "smarts" or whatever.

Um, I don't think someone who quite clearly lacks basic comprehension skills should be putting other people down about intelligence.....I never, ever said intelligent people by default can't have social skills. Troll.

Claiming that there exists some direct (or even indirect) correlation between intelligence and social skills is idiotic. Although you'd probably know all about that.

yes, because comprehension and intelligence are the same thing. (sarcasm btw)

How many have you done Riproot? [ans: 0]
I'm not allowed to take electives :frown2:
But I've sat in on enough psych classes to know.

Basic google search with hundreds of thousands of results in support. I honestly cannot be bothered to find a 100% reputable source, do the homework yourself but first result that popped up http://psychology.wikia.com/wiki/Correlation_between_intelligence_and_social_deficiency
correlation does not imply causation

How dumb are you?

Also, I think you'll find at the lower part of the intelligence spectrum there is a higher level of social incompetence than at the top, that is if you are able to do research. Which I doubt.

Riproot I think more likely than me making these points based on insecurity about my results is your vehement denial because you're insecure about your own social skills....

lol that is the most illogical statement I have ever heard.

and there is no fucking bell curve of the trade-off between intelligence and social capacity. Do you even know what a bell curve is?

Not majority... 95 isn't that difficult to achieve I don't think. My principle keeps giving me an ATAR estimate of mid 90's (not sure I can achieve it with my performance in HSC though), which if true... I'm definitely not one who lacks 'social skills'.
Tbh, I have a mix of both a social life and study life. When I'm at home I dont study all day long, I usually watch TV or watch youtube/talk to people on skype etc for probably half the day and I probably study 1/4 of the time I'm awake (I'm not awake for very long though lol). And when I go out, I love meeting new people, I'd just go up to people and make new friends.
Technically 'genetics' do come into play - you can be socially inactive at times but it may not hinder your ability to socialise with people. If you are 'genetically' sociable, then being locked up in a closet and then coming into contact with people is not an issue. I was talking to this girl who got DUX of my school before (99.95) and she was really friendly and nice, she didn't have issues at all keeping a conversation with me and she's achieving a high distinction average in Sydney uni for a law/international studies degree. However, my friends in the grade above me told me her parents made her stay home most of the time to study... how is she so sociable? genetics.

You can also be absolutely terrible at school, perform academically below average and be really socially awkward as well. I've met many like that in my school.
Also, the guy at my school which I'm assuming will achieve DUX is extremely sociable and goes 'partying' all the time. One of my friends mentioned to me "his got muscles like the size of your head, how can he be so smart?" and I just laugh.
