OI, reduced HECS for Advanced Mathematics @ UNSW

School of Mathematics and Statistics - News - New BSc (Advanced Mathematics) degree

For top HSC students (UAI about 95+), UNSW offered starting in 2008 a new specialist degree in Advanced Mathematics
(Update 18/1/08: The published UAI is 92 (for Commonwealth-supported places).
There are still places available.

Update 30/12/08: $10,000 slashed from HECS on maths degrees

But really, there is much to like about maths, it's about problem solving and pretty much many fields especially in science and technology requires such a valuable skill.
Then compare it to an arts degree by itself and it probably gets you tiring shifts at macdonalds, burger king, etc.
Afterwards the mathematicians will be laughing their fucking heads off at the arts student because they have the right to after all that good hard work they endured and they probably will get the $100,000 per annum after much experience while the arts student can only get that amount after much experience offering their body to countless clients at the cost of the aesthetics of their genitals when they realise the unrealistic expectations that came with an English major.

lol. English is about whoever can make up random bs in an exam is the best.
oi, why the fuck didnt you change your sig to the solution i solved for the PDE to the heat equation?

I love maths; though I'm too great at 3u, my 2u is excellent.

only prob with maths is that in physical calculus that don't know the difference between speed and velocity and they won't use mks units, quite annoying. other than that, absolutley love it

school maths isnt often a real world problem.
go to maths, physics or engineering.

what annoys the fuck out of me in engineering is the use of US Customary units like feet, inches, pounds instead of the good old S.I. units such as metres or kilograms.

It's the most useless subject next to English. I only ever use it to decide which brand of items is cheaper! lol

lol, maths (including HSC maths) is pretty much used extensively EVERYWHERE except in the arts field whether it be basic arithmetic or complex calculus. The maths you learn in high school (especially HSC level) will definitely come in handy especially if you intend to do tertiary studies in the field of commerce, science or engineering.

On the other hand, the english you learn in the HSC is really only useful if you are pursuing arts in your career...

complex calculus in arts.
interesting, where does this claim stem from?
