i go to burwood ghs and i'd say most of us in yr11 at the moment take school pretty seriously.

i started the year off by being studious and 'into it' but i sorta lost my motivation and got a little restless around second term [when i dropped 2U down to 12U]. when i got my free periods [ie last period off on friday afternoons] i started to go all bludgey which i still kinda am. i'm failing ext. maths at the moment so it just diminishes my 'confidence' and 'enjoyment' in maths even further and sorta puts me off doing maths. i tend not to put as much focus in maths as my other subjects though. it won't be long before our yearly exams come along and smash us into smithereens *sigh*

but my main focus atm
is to improve on maths
and i'm aiming to get into 4u
as maths is my strongest subject
but if i don't improve on things atm
i mite not be able to get my uai of 96/97

I took prelim more seriously than the HSC itself. I think it was the fact that I lacked know;edge of what was expected of myself and burnt myself out before the real thing. A lot of people begin prelim seriously often because of the hype that surrounds the circumstances.

I used to think that year 10 maths was hard...jeez, it's nothing compared to year eleven - it's not even 3 unit

i take year 11 seriously coz i see it as a guide as to how well i might do next year.
last year in year 10 when i was doing year 11 maths, i didn't take ext 1 that seriously, but i think that was just becoz i found it difficult at the time so i didn't really try that hard (no motivation). this year, i try hard in hsc maths coz i know i can do well.

sometimes i don't feel like working in yr11 coz i think "what's the point, it's not gonna count"...i try not to let that discourage me, but i'll definitely be putting in more effort in term 4.

i don't think it's really a matter of difficulty e.g. business studies is definitely no harder than yr9 or yr10 commerce. but i've found that i've had less time and more assessments (but that might be bcoz i have hsc maths this year). overall, i've just been stretched for time - i think that's ur worst enemy in yr11 and yr12.

yr11 doesnt count and hsc doesnt count in the long run either...nothing will count for your life
except that the hsc (and prelim) is a ticket for a better(?) life

i began to fully take prelim seriously in term 2 just before the half yearlies. i still go on the net but i maintained the no. of study hours per night. it's not too much but it's good enough for now for me (2-3hrs with a little bit of reading in-between). i still have time to go out but i didn't bludge too much. prelim also provides skills in a way on how to succeed and do well before the HSC year such as note-taking, summarising, analysing stuff, yr 11 maths stuff etc. i think it's best to be serious in your work in prelim year but don't let stress or bludginess override you too soon or else next year you will be so pressured to the point when it's too complicated to do any assessment at the last minute and believe me the situation isn't very pretty.

whether it's a ticket to better life or not is really up for debate (people commit suicide over it, which is hardly a "better life").
that aside, it''s still important. it opens up many more opportunities for your future...there's nothing worse than getting stuck at a dead-end in a maze u don't know how to get out of.

I guess I take year 11 somewhat serious, definitely more serious than year 7-10 (teachers weren't kidding when the workload goes up). I've cut down on my TV load and internet usage ... like I only go on 2 times a week for 3 hrs whereas I use to go on for 5 hours.
Besides Maths, all other subjects are somewhat bludgey. However when it comes to assessment tasks, I massively cram.

i think the workload has only increased coz yr11 is 3 terms long. it's probably the same amount of work (or maybe even slightly less) crammed into three-quarters of the time!

at least yr12 is 4 terms, except for the fact that the trials are only three terms into yr12 (at least it's still longer than yr11)

I took it seriously in term 1. Then I began to slack off and skip heaps of school. Now I'm taking it seriously again. I never really stopped taking maths seriously, though.

mine r the last 2 weeks of term, prelim's the biggest bludge too - i basically do only an hour or less hw a night just hope im not this slack for hsc
