Matter didn't exist, it was formed from energy. You could argue that energy did exist, but that depends on which theory you subscribe to. Some have a balance of positive and negative energy, meaning that no energy actually existed at t = 0.

True enough, but my point is that basically the building blocks of the universe existed, everything that is in the universe now existed at t=0, it was just in a different form (matter & energy are interchangeable).

Something can not have a cause without time, what exists now in the universe existed at time=0, perhaps in a different form but it existed. It's not tricky language and I don't think you've dealt with the problem at all.

The entire concept of a 'cause' requires a before, "before" time is nonsense.
