According to science humans evolved from a creature that already had a belly button and there was not just two there was probably a population of a few thousand.

well, there wasn't even an adam and eve to beging with.....

but the reason its a question is because either....they didn't, in which case we aren't in the same form as them...or they did, in which case god created them with a pointless characteristic

Is there much point in debating what many christians do not take literally? Surely there are other god-related issues to discuss, issues that are more worthy of our time?

true, but then dont forget, alot of christians take the adam and eve story literally, especially in the US where christianity dominates.

But we aren't in the US, are we, and by and large most Christians who take the time to debate this issue seriously do not take the story literally, do they?

As davin said, this is nothing more than a sideshow point. Surely there are other issues that are far more interesting?

I'd like to point out that this point that I don't think moonlight and I know myself did not want to have these discussions about the bible or argue about the bible... It seems to be a rhetorical wank session.

for those who know this thread better than me, has the question of "did God create man or did man create God?" been discussed? if so, then thats all i have to say. if not, dont you think religion around the whole world makes more sense if you see it as a parallel relationship between God and man, and not one of endless service by man?

im sorry, not explained very well. im sure others can do it justice :)

God may exist, but all existing conceptions were, imo, created by man.

Earlier on I provided some video links which discussed 'magical thinking', and also discussed the way in which God plays perfectly into the way human beings think. Humans look around their world, they are tool-makers, so when they look at the world they wonder 'what created this'... They then can only think of themselves as a creator species, so they just imagine a gigantic form of themselves. After this, they look around and say 'wow this world is awesome, i've got everything I could possibly need!' so they conclude this world is FOR them...

Anyway I have discussed it earlier however It didn't take up too much. I would love to continue to discuss it.

Number 1 deals with magical thinking, the others are equally interesting.
