How crucial are your electives to the field of law you want to go in to?

I really want to go into corporate/financial areas of law such as trusts and m&a, however, in relation to subjects which cover those grounds ANU fails to provide the same scope that for example UNSW does

Well most HRs say it doesn't matter. However you might get the question "Oh you did Family Law. Why are you seeking a career at our firm and not a family law firm?"
