Can anyone tell me who are eligible to do ESL for the HSC? I'm quite baffled at the moment See, I came here to Australia three and a half years ago, and by the time I do my HSC I would have come for more than five years, so I thought that I would not be able to do ESL. But recently I found that one of my friends is doing ESL, and she came here a couple of months earlier than me. I've even heard of a tale that a girl who came here in Year 4 was still eligible to do ESL. o.0 Is this likely to be true? I mean, wouldn't that be unfair to everyone else?
Also, which English course should I do in Year 12? ESL (if I am eligible), English Std, or English Adv? I'm now yet to start Year 11, when I'd be doing English Adv (my school makes everyone in Year 11 do Eng Adv but you may choose to do Std or ESL in Year 12), but I'm not sure of my choice in Year 12. I know, I still have a year, but I just would like to be more informed now Does ESL scale really badly? Is it difficult to score a Band 6 in ESL (or does it even have a Band 6? )? I've heard that it is pretty hard to get Band 6 for English Std (but that may be due to the difference in the candidates anyway), but would I be better off doing ESL, English Std or English Adv?
This is how I did at school for English last year (Year 10):
- For the first three assessment tasks in the year, my marks were all in the range 65-69%
- Then for the wide-reading task, I got 16 out of 20;
- For the three assessment tasks in the second semester, my marks were all in the range 85-89% (a huge jump, I was surprised )
- And for the English yearly, my mark was 79%;
- In the end, I got 80-84% as my mark range for English for my yearly report, an 89 in the English SC, and a 'B - High' as the SC grade from my school.
... So who are eligible to do ESL for the HSC? Would it be better for me to do ESL, Eng Std, or Eng Adv? Advice is greatly appreciated
