I cannot english. I hate it so much.
For the past year (Last year in year 11) I have only memorised essays throughout Year 11 disregarding the question given by all means. (Of course let's say the question given wasn't about the essay I memorised I would still attempt to answer the question with my memorised text here and there) And it hasn't really gone too well (During assessments, I received a 19/20 on my memorised essay that fit the question, but a 13/20 when it did not fit the question at all)
Right now I am doing The Tempest and Hag-Seed as a comparative text for Mod A English Advanced (Year 12). I wanted to try writing WITHOUT memorising an entire essay but more like memorising quotes and line of arguments. However, as I attempt a question I genuinely have no clue what to write about (General ideas of themes occurring pops into my head but ways to phrase it is very hard)
If I try long enough after a while I can get some nice sounding sentences that ATQ. However I'm just thinking, how people can change their essay during the middle of their exam without taking too long? My english teacher isn't bad and explains themes and contexts really well but I genuinely have no idea how to incorporate it into my essay without it sounding really really bad and incorrect. I feel like if you were to give me an MCQ on the events that occurred in the play I could get it right, but to write about it while including context and making it sound relevant to the question is actually impossible.
When I hear her explain ideas such as power/authority/hierarchal themes in the play and in the book it seems like everything makes sense and I understand it, but if I wrote about it or talked about it myself I sound incredibly literal and bad. I would really like to take a test without memorising so I can apply my knowledge to any question but I am unable to do so would anyone have some tips?
My english si so bad that I can't even explain why I am so bad at english in this thread
I genuinely just don't understand how to study English properly and I wanna know the methods you guys take? I think I really dislike english possibly because I'm learning it incorrectly? Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
Also I tend to procrastinate a lot less on my other subjects since I know exactly what to study and find them enjoyable to learn about (ie physics, chemistry, maths) However, when it comes to English I literally don't know what to do and I just procrastinate.
