Hello there,
I am on the lookout for an English (Advanced) tutor for my sister who goes to St George Girls High School. She is currently in Year 11, but I would like to get her a head start in the HSC course.
Familiarity of texts as well as access to them is preferable. The speculated prescribed texts are (based on 2009 texts):
Area of Study: Belonging
- William Shakespeare: As You Like It (drama)
Module A: Comparative Study of Texts and Context
Elective 2: Texts in Time
- Mary Shelley: Frankenstein (prose fiction)
- Ridley Scott: Blade Runner (film)
Module B: Critical Study of Texts
- Gwen Hardwood: Selected Poems
* Father and Child (Parts I and II)
* The Violets
* At Mornington
* A Valediction
* Triste Triste
* The Sharpness of Death
* Mother Who Gave Me Life
Module C: Representation and Text
Elective 2: History and Memory
- Mark Raphael Baker: Fiftieth Gate (non-fiction)
OR
- Smithsonian National Museum of American History: September 11 website (multimedia)
My sister is around grade average in English (she is mathematically inclined like I am ) so I need a tutor who is patient and can help her improve beyond just the grade average.
The following is desirable (but not a necessity):
- Strong results in English (Advanced) at around 95 or above
- Currently studying English at university and/or has lots of previous tutoring experience
- (otherwise) Strong familiarity with the listed modules and electives (with regards to the new syllabus) for recent graduates
- Structured lessons going through each module (this means they should not just be about perfecting essay structures but also about the raw concepts and prescribed texts in the modules and electives)
- Strong interest, passion and confidence in English
- Excellent communication skills in clarifying complex abstract ideas
- Has the patience to guide a not so bright student in English
- Lives nearby in the western suburbs around Auburn/Lidcombe
- Reasonably priced
If you are interested in helping my sister out, send me an email with your details to: trebla_2006@hotmail.com ASAP.
