Alright, I have a few questions to ask.

Is it possible to take on 4 U at another school? I know ext. Histry from my school are doing it at Hurlstone Ag.

Also, what did u guys do with ur other subjects once u picked up the extra unit of english? Did u drop two subjects to bring it down to 10 Units, just one subject, or did u do 13 Units?

The subjects I do are:
English (Adv + Extension 1 [and trying to convince my school to let me take on Ext 2])
Chem
PDHPE
Drama
IPT (Curse and devils!)
General Maths

I really want to drop IPT...but Maths is one which I dont really need since I'm looking at becoming an english teacher after school.

So basically, gimme the goss on what you guys did with ur subjects...please. Pretty please. Pretty please with Thom Yorke on top.

I kept all of my subjects in order to maintain a safe 12 units. I am failing maths at about 26% at the moment, and have given up on it -- I am keeping it, however, so I can still have an attainment in Mathematics (Advanced) on my HSC. Hence, my subjects thus far stand at:

English (Advanced)
English (Extension 1)
English (Extension 2)
Physics
Chemistry
Software Design & Development
Mathematics

Also, about your goal of becoming a teacher -- I think teachers need to have an attainment in Mathematics for the qualifications. I'm not 100% sure, but I think you should check with you careers advisor.

I think there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it at another school, although of course it's entirely up to your school. The course isn't really content based, I think it would be ok although of course you'd have to convince your school.

Sheesh...two four unit subjects...you're nuts! That scales pretty damn well...you can get 80's all across the board and still get about 96 or so if I'm thinking right. Good luck!

Thanks for your help...but I could use a bit more information on what everybody did with thir subjects and that...who did 10 units, who did 12...who dropped what, yadda yadda yadda...but most of the stuff there is cool. Thanks again guys.

yr 11.
hsc:
agriculture. (2)
prelims:
extension maths (3)
extension english (3)
visual arts (2)
modern history (2)
economics (2) - dropped half way because i had 14 units.

year 12.
extension 2 maths (4)
extension 2 english (4)
modern history and history extension (3)
philosophy distinction course (2)
visual arts (2) - dropped half way this year because i had 15 units.

finishing up with 13 now.

it's not bad. it's all about what you can manage. i'm huge on procrastinating: for the first three terms i never spent more than half an hour doing actual work on weekdays, and barely more on weekends. things turned out alright, but i regret that i didn't work more so i could've kept v.a. 15 wasn't that bad.

Year 11:
English Ext 1
Business Studies
Economics
Latin
Japanese
Modern History
TOTAL: 15 Units

It wasn't that horrible...just..no spare periods.

Year 12:
English Ext 2
Economics
Latin
Japanese
Modern HIstory
History Ext.
TOTAL 13 Units.

Dropped Business Studies, because it scales badly, and picked up history extension (oh, the regret) and English Extension 2. 13 units isn't actually too bad, because extension 2 you don't study for, so it's more like 12 units. I'd drop a 2 unit subject, (in your case IPT) and pick up Extension 2...sounds good..?

By that time it didn't surprise me - we'd been watching videos/doing worksheets photocopied out of textbooks all year

hey my personal opinion....if ur doing english teaching next yr (which i am going to do too) dont drop maths, because many unis require u to do ANY 2 units of maths, so u dont wanna be doing a bridging course.

my subjects are similar to urs:

Year 11:
2 unit eng
3 unit eng
gen maths
IPT
drama
ancient

Year 12:
2 unit eng
3 unit eng
4 unit eng
gen. maths
drama
ancient

so yeh i'm going in with 10 units. but i'm confident i will go well, because i'm able to concentrate on all 10 units.

basically, if ur thinking of something to drop, then have a look at the courses at uni first to see what u have to do. ALso, drop the one ur doing the least best at.

just my two cents :p

before i tell everyone my subjects....
who the hell was allowed to do 15 units!!!!!!!!!!
im not happy
at the start of yr 11 i had
Business Studies
English Advance
English Extension 1
Mathematics
Mathematics Extension 1
Chemistry
Economics
Information Technology
(all up 14 units - but o no had to drop one....so Business went - should have dropped I.T. and picked up physics)
so i did that and for yr 12 i had
English Advance
English Extension 1
English Extension 2
Mathematics
Mathematics Extension 1
Mathematics Extension 2
Chemistry
Economics
which gives me 12 units - we were allowed 13 units max even though i could have easily done physics (if i only liked it b4....)
but i was explicitly told that i wasnt allowed to do ne more that 13 units
so i dropped
now i hear others on this thread had 15 units and im not happy
but S**T happens
cant turn back the clock now
ciao

what she said ^^^ lol

taxman, 4 unit english is a great subject but it involves A LOT of dedication. It's also going to be a lot harder if you're the only one in the class, so try round up a few people to do it too. But you can definitely do it at another school. We had about 6 in our class, and a boys' school in the area joined up with us so we had 9. It's good...but you gotta work around everyone...like timetables and after school activities, etc.

IPT is a bit of an "iffy" subject...like you can work ur arse off and still only get in the 60s. For IPT, there's not much (if any) scaling...so unless you're getting 80s and above, I don't think it's worth it. (Hence why i dropped it).

But it's entirely up to you...and your capabilities.

If you're interested, definitely talk to ur english co-ordinator about joining with another school.

:)
