For me, quite are few, but i better sum it down;

* Hercule Poirot (much better than miss marple!) - Agatha Christie

* Sherlock Holmes (& Waston is pretty good too!)

* Marvin - HitchHicker's Guide To The Galaxy

* All 7 of the Doctors..from the Dr Who novels!

I have several:
1) Belgarath from the Belgariad, Mallorean and Belgarath the Sorceror.
2) Prince Kheldar (Silk) from the Belgariad and the Mallorean.
3) Pug/Milamber in the Riftwar, Serpentswar, Conclave of Shadows and Darkwar series.

And my last three will get me yelled at but...

4) Severus Snape from the Harry Potter series.
5) Voldemort from the Harry Potter series.
6) Wolfstar from the Axis Trilogy.

Rhett Butler from Gone With the Wind is a pretty good shout, Chaplin's tramp is a good shout too.

hmmm, I don't know which one I should suggest.... probably crime and punishment, it's probably more acsessible. Though personally I found "The Idiot" very interesting, ney, profound. Very good read if you are interested in Christ-like figures who are very honest (only tell the truth), and how these rare (ie impossible) characters fit into society. I myself loved the book... based on my limited experience, if you like dostoyevsy's style, either of these books will please you.

I look forward to reading what you have read! (brothers)

Definitely Elizabeth Bennet from Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice'... I love her wit/ sarcasm =] And also Mr Darcy for his conceit, arrogance and 'selfish disdain for the feelings of others'.

I swear every chick has to read this book.
