Information on Getting Academic Advice

So results are coming, you're worried about your situation and not quite sure what the deal is with getting into that course you really want to get into?

Whether you're a recent high school leaver, mature age, transfer or anything else, no one on here is going to be able to give you the proper academic advice that you seek.

The above was bolded for emphasis.

Where can I find information then?

You need to go to the following pages:

Miscellaneous Questions:

Got a question about ATARs? Here's the very simple way they are calculated.

Got a question about Bonus Points?

Is there a minimum ATAR required for a person to have bonus points?

The Student Enquiry Service is the first port of call for any questions relating to getting into Macquarie as well as what to do when you're at Macquarie. Get used to calling them because they are the OFFICIAL word on everything to do academic advising.
No. The Student Enquiry Service is the official word on everything to do with administrative procedures. They do not do academic advising. If you have tricky questions about special entry schemes and whether you'll get enough bonus points to get an offer, ask the Student Enquiry Service. If you want academic advice about whether it's sensible for you to attempt a course that you have enough bonus points to get into, ask an academic from the relevant department. It's called "academic advice" because it's provided by academics, not administrative staff.

The thing with special entry schemes is that they can let students into courses that the student has negligible chance of completing. The Student Enquiry Service cannot tell you this. The academics can. The academics are charged with the responsibility of placing your needs above the university's needs when they advise you. Academics are available throughout the Information Day tomorrow, Wednesday 4 January 2012.

The Marketing team run a Future Students facebook page with both staff and student advisers providing you information on how to get in. I'd still recommend the first one over this as the quality of advising via this can be a bit hit/miss.
I know you haven't said that this is academic advice, but given the title of the thread, some people might assume that's what you meant. So, just to say it explicitly, the Marketing team do not give academic advice. The Marketing team's role is to market the university's courses. If you ask them whether you should do a course at Macquarie, they will say yes, because that's their job. Again, if you want advice about whether it's sensible for you to attempt a particular course at Macquarie, ask the academics that run that course.
