This is as far as my CD collection goes in terms of female vocalists:

Tori Amos
George (Katie Noonan)
Fiona Apple
Magic Dirt (Adalita)
PJ Harvy
Hole (Courtney Love)

...The Female to Male ratio is somewhat unequal! Surely there are more good ones out there?

My music collection is all guys, bands mainly. Tim freedman from the whitlams has a good voice.

But of course..It is Portishead we're talking about here. Eagerly anticipating their Portishead-followup.

oh glycerine, i think i just found my musical soulmate in you :) geez, uve got amazing taste in music (in my opinion anyway)... i own albums from everyone on your list except Cibo Matto, Neneh Cherry and Catpower (must investigate all three of them now!) and I'm not too into Missy Elliot (but still think shes a genius)

Have people heard Beth Gibbons' (Portishead) solo album? I got it the other day, and while its different from Portishead, its still mighty fine.

Ok, just to add a few singers here who haven't been mentioned

-Patty Griffin
-Elan
-Holly McNarland
-Joan Osbourne
-Sophie B Hawkins
-Sheryl Crow
-Missy Higgins
-Shelby Starner
-Beth Hirsch
-Jewel (i will defend 0304, even tho i dont like it much)

i could go on all night, but i won't.
