What's considered a good GPA (on the system where the max is 4.0)?

2.0 = pass
3.0 = credit
4.0 = distinction/high distinction

If you're passing, thats a good GPA.

I'd say 3+ because in our system you can't balance out pass/credit with distinction/high distinction.

It does depend on the degree though, in law they are pretty picky but then again I find that it is easier to maintain a good arts GPA compared to my law one.

For some reason I get an overall GPA calculated and a law GPA calculated separately which is weird...I hope my marks keep mine as is or pull them up

For those of you that go to Macquarie university.

I was just wondering why they count both a HD and a D as 4.0 on the gpa scale.

I don't know but its stupid, I went to UWS previously so when I saw my GPA was 3.6 I was like WTF because thats a bit over a pass average by the normal scale! We should all use the same system.

It's just historically how they've done it.

Yeah but shouldn't the difference between the two grades also be reflected in the GPA?

Perhaps?
HD= 4

while DN=3.5-3.75

I mean, there is quite an effort involved in trying to get HD's in Actuarial studies and other rigorous courses and I can't help but feel that some of those students might just be feeling a little upset with how things are going down atm. On the other hand, i guess all the people with Distinctions would be all too happy to get a 4.0 GPA.

I guess , just as long as no-one gets hurt, it's ok to continue down this path.

Yes melsc, it's the same as the American system.
