Hi!

You could try the following:

  • R.K. Sinclair, Democracy and Participation in Athens
    A.H.M. Jones, Athenian Democracy
    C.M. Bowra, Periclean Athens
    V. Ehrenberg, From Solon to Socrates
W.R. Connor, The New Politicians iof Fifth-Century Athens
    N.G.L.Hammond, A History of Greece to 322BC
    A.R. Burn, Pericles and Athens
W.G. Forrest, The Emergence of Greek Democracy 800-400BC

There are many more, including journal articles and monographs which you can locate in uni libraries. The ones above are the ones I have found useful over the years and can probably be found at school-as a text, in the library or your teachers may have personal copies. There is also a lot of great stuff online. just use a browser to pin down what you are looking for. The best site I can recommend is the Internet Ancient History Online which covers a huge range of topics and includes both primary and secondary sources. Don't forget Plutarch's Lives for Pericles, Cleon, Alcibiades and Co.

    Best wishes,
