I love the novel so far and think the breadth of ideas and psycho-analysis of everything is amazing! Such an enthralling novel.

Anyone else read it? Did you love it, if so, what about it?

Gravity's Rainbow is transgressive—not only because it questions and inverts social standards of deviance and disgust[1] but also because it breaks down, or transgresses, the hermetically sealed either/or boundaries and categories of Western culture and reason. Frequently digressive, the novel subverts many of the traditional elements of plot and character development, and traverses detailed, specialist knowledge drawn from a wide range of disciplines.

This interests me; but:

The narrative is set primarily in Europe at the end of World War II and centers on the design, production and dispatch of V-2 rockets by the German military, and, in particular, the quest undertaken by several characters to uncover the secret of a mysterious device named the "Schwarzgerät" ("black device") that is to be installed in a rocket with the serial number "00000."

This does not.

Sounds a little like Catch-22 to be honest, but the novel is not like that, and when you're reading it I hardly think it focuses on the physicality of the war but rather the mental and psychological effects. Pynchon also loves using the word hardon to describe all the erections this bloke gets... it's very in your face and real. One problem is, that it jumps around a fair bit; you've really gotta be on top of the fast paced movement.

Yeah, as a book it seems fine. But the story it tells isn't really my thing. Then again, I thought the same about Catch-22, and got through that and mostly enjoyed it.

I've never read it, good effort if you have though, its supposed to be like one of the most difficult books to read ever, I'm pretty sure there are guides written explaining how to read it lol.

I've now bought a copy, so its currently being shipped. I don't know when I'll get around to reading it, but I'll probably try and start it soon.
