i wanna buy extra storage for my desktop comp...looking at probably 80 gigabytes and 8Mb buffer.
Does anyone have any suggestions about which brand to buy:
Hitachi
Maxtor
Seagate
Western Digital

Also, I want it to be portable so I can carry it around and transfer files via USB without need for an external power source. Should I buy a 3.5 inch or 5.25 inch enclosure and any suggestions on where to buy from? Already looked on ebay,

Thanks in advance for your help people!

If you have the cash, try and get a 2.5" drive as these are much more compact than the 3.5" ones (just compare the enclosures).

you can give them a go aswell

I'm a big fan of Maxtor and Seagate... Though for external I'd say go with Seagate. :)

maxtor is up the top of the list of not to buy for me

i used to work in a computer shop and i've seen far too many dead Maxtors, along with IBM deathstars

Western Digital, IBM and Seagate hands down.

They are all generic except these elite brand and trust me the extra 30 or so bucks is an extra 30 or so months your HDD wil live long and prosper!

Great buy, how much did you end up spending? Not over 200 I hope.
