Hey, this is a NOTICE:

If you're good at mathematics, or want to see how good you really are...

then

try out the HSC EXAM of 4002!

It's a 5 hour exam, based on past HSC papers and in the exact same format, but still contains only 10 questions...or should I say question 10's... =)

If you even so much as pass this exam, then you're in that top 2-3% bracket of the state, from 1995 - 2004!

And if you ACE this exam (i.e. 90% or above / band 6)

Then you are just a bloody friggin genius!!!!!!

what would be hard is if you MADE UP 10 new question ten style questions

well i did try to make something that was actually within the grasp of those doing 2 unit, rather than those doing 4 unit.... a 2 unit student who knows the syllabus doesnt need to know any 3/4 unit mathematics to complete this exam...so this exam paper is actually feasible (in a very unlikely way)

but if you're an awesome 2 unit student, you should be able to finish (alot of it) within the 5 hours recommended.

Boring. Going back to observing the IMO on Mathlink and waiting for the questions to be released. At least they're difficult enough to provide a challenge.

2UNIT HSC EXAM: 6 Hours

Q1. Given a line of infinite length (L) and a point (P) outside that line, prove that an infinite number lines parallel to (L) may be drawn passing through (P).


Q2. a) Find the solid of revolution when 2x² - 3y² - 4xy = 0 is rotated about the y-axis.
b) Sketch the graph


Q3. Prove using induction, that for u>3, no rational values of a & b may be found for the condition:
a^u + b^u = 1


Q4. Let z = cos(x) + isin(x), where i = Root(-1)
a) Prove
z = e^ix
b) Hence, show that
iⁱⁱ = 0.947158998 + 0.32076445 i

Q5. Prove that this question has no solution.

Apart from the fact it violates the axioms of Euclidean geometry, sure.
