I messed up this section for the trials and just decided to memorise an essay.

Not the whole essay, I will only make the body paragraphs and memorise that.

Intro, topic sentence, concluding sentence and conclusion I will do it on the spot and relate it back to the question.

Would this be a good idea???

I'm incorporating significant person + ethics + practices all in 1 essay (because my teacher said that the HSC questions will now ask for all 3)

This is a great idea. I botched my trials as well and my teacher told me to employ this exact strategy. I ended up getting 46/50 for my exam mark.

Would the HSC suddenly ask for 1 area ??

They could, thats why I also did memorised essays for each topic (ie one for ethics, personality etc). But I just remembered paragraphs and left all the other stuff for the day.

But seeing that my teacher was full emphasising about combining all 3, what are the chances of them asking a specific area ?

Possible, but unlikely. Still, I would prepare something in the event that they just ask for a specific area.

Be careful. DO NOT memorise an essay as the question can ask you almost any/everything. You could answer with just one or two areas, or all three. You may even draw on yr 11 material (but main focus is yr 12). It depends on the question. Best advise I would give - write a PLAN before you start to answer, and put it on the first page of your answer booklet so the marker can see where you are going. Quite frankly, I don't know how you can answer the new style questions without a planned response.

A partially memorised response like I discussed earlier is what most band 6 students do.
