Yeh was wondering how the hsc in tech course is compiled, i heard 20% folio, 40% major work, 40% hsc exam
so that means no assessments and "half yearly" exams?

That looks like a breakdown of the external mark to me.

Aren't the folio and major work externally marked as well as the exam.

That would mean that the internal marks - i.e. half-yearlies and assessment tasks set at school are used in the same way as they are for other subjects.

yeh the folio major work and hsc is all externally marked
thats what it says in the stickied thread from the subforum

because with other subjects, its 50% internal assessment mark, 50% HSC exam
but with woodwork its kinda like 50% hsc exam, 50% majorwork, portfolio

not exactly. as cem said, internal (trials, assessments, etc) are the same. but the external mark (which for a lot of other subjects is just the hsc exam) in IT is 40 marks for the HSC written exam, and 60 marks for the Major Work. Those two make up the external. Of the 60 marks for the major work 20 are for the folio and 40 are for the practical component. It says this in the syllabus and marking guidelines for the major work.

oh ok
well all the assessments i had for in tech so far in 2008-09 was all parts of the portfolio
like first assessment was statement of intent and research etc
then drawins and materials
then production processes and further sketches, computer applications

basically compiling the folio

i think the IT exams are just stupid, last one in trials was half about stairs construction (um wtf?!) and the other part is about a business, luckily i do business studies aswell though

Yeah to make ensure people are doing it and don't leave it to the last minute, when it's worth a 3rd of your major mark.

Funnily enough we had to do an industry study and know about all those business things, so it sorta makes sense having it in an exam.

Did you do the indepedent paper? If so the stair question was bullshit. I couldn't do the scale drawing because I don't do maths and don't know trigonometry to figure out the length. Wasn't happy.
