Haha engineering pays the bills. The stream of engo isn't too critical - aero engineers can get jobs in other fields such as mechanical. All my colleagues are aero engineers, since we deal with aerodynamics, just not on aircraft.
r u still in the us?

they're alrteady getting automated arent they lol
Idk that much about actl but people say there's lots of job prospects (but personally I think it's limited in Australia due to lack of insurance companies and tonnes of grads).

I'm no expert but it does seem very automatable (more so than accountants) but of course there are decision making elements involved so I guess there's a human factor that needs to be involved. Maybe chief actuarial jobs that are more admin and decisions can be done by executive managers/directors under the counsel of statisticians who happen to specialise in risk management? After typing that out, consulting actuaries might as well keep their jobs I guess - why change things up?

True :) I meant in the sense of become a fully qualified actuary (FIAA). At least the Actuaries Institute sorta limit that program so there won’t really be people unnecessarily overqualified as a full actuary.

Fields medalist being the Math equivalent of a Nobel prize is essentially people on the level of someone like Einstein. Anyone would want them and most pure math grads are not at that level. Out of all the Pure math graduates in Australian history, the best of the best from schools like James Ruse, even Math olympians only two have ever gotten a fields medal, Terrance Tao and Akshay Venkatesh who were both prodigies.
Both Terry & Akshay attended private schools and have mothers who were academics in branches of mathematics.

Would you think actuarial jobs will become automated in the near future? From what ive learned (only done acst152 so not much experience) lots of stuff seems very computerisable.
I don't think acst152 is that accurate when showing the actuary job, I'm not 100% sure either what the job is like. But I've heard there's quite a lot of human judgement involved (especially consulting) when, for example, making models, as well as coding (like R, mySQL). So I guess this is why it'll be a bit hard to automate due to judgement and creativity needed (coding). Not 100% sure what accounting entails either though. I guess eventually all jobs will be automated it's just which ones happen first sadly.
