Well, how many times is enough to read a text to understand it fully? (yeah, my grammar here is just crap but I can't think of a better way to reprhase it). I know it depends from person to person but I was thinking three times, or is that way too dedicated? My friends ave ranged from half a text and achieving 90+ to four or five times.

Sorry if the answer has been posted elsewhere but I thought I'd be better to adderss this here specifically and directly.

Thanks!

I think it differs for everyone, and then there's the book itself. For example, I know many people (myself included) who never even finished a prescribed text and still got a band 6. I did however, at least gloss over the parts I couldn't force myself to stomach (Shipping News, anyone?), read study guides and overviews, and discuss the texts muchly with my friends.

I guess the important thing is to understand the text. Sometimes, particularly if it's a really big fat chunky book, it's difficult to get to the really good bits until only after dragging yourself through much less interesting bits that can make your attention waver, making it harder to recognise the good bits when you see them.

So in a nutshell, just as often as you need to (my average is probably somewhere between once or twice).

I usually read the text once through before we started it in class, and then looked at the relevant parts when we were studying it. And skimmed through it again for important things before trials and the HSC exams. But I think I would have benefited from reading through a couple more times, because I probably missed some important things.

some of the complex stuff, like for english extension i had to read too many times. because we did postmodernism it meant that many of us were still trying to figure it out days before our exams.
but for advanced, you only have to read it once and then the study guides like a million billion times.
