So is 1 unit equal to a semester and a 2 unit subject is a full year subject? (Sorry, not a HSC student).
If that's so, than I'll be doing only 9 "units" next year (ATAR in SA is out out 9 units, or 8 before next year). I'm a little worried about having no backup subject, but the only other subject I'd consider doing is Accounting which I think will be on the same line as one of my other subjects, plus I've been advised not to pick up any subjects due to the difficulty of mine. /cry
nope, that is Victoria.
in NSW
2 unit is your standard course, e.g. Chemistry (out of the subjects you are doing)
1 unit is half the length, you study for a full year, but less contact hours.
e.g. at my school which has 75 minute periods
1 unit equals roughly 3 75 minute periods per fortnight
2 units equals roughly 6 75 minute periods per fortnight
3 units equals 9; 4 units equals 12 etc.
The harder subjects have more units.
within each subject are modules (approximately units in VIC). Most courses have 4 modules per year. So 8 in total. A module is a topic...

to put into retrospective
12 units is a full load
10 units is a 5 subject load

you are probably doing 10-11 units if in NSW (that's assuming your doing English)
Biology, Chemistry are all 2 units. Maths Studies and Specialist Mathematics are equivalent to what is called Extension 2 Mathematics, which is 4 units. Research project - I am guessing is 1 unit worth.

That sounds slightly confusing.

But good luck to those doing 12+!
it does for you. Basically a standard subject is 2 units of work. 12 units = 6 subjects. Rather than doing a semester, just half the hours for 1 unit. etc.

12 units, even though I'd really like to drop a subject, my dad reckons I shouldn't :')
Well then, if my major gets too stressful, I'm going to drop a subject. Idec anymore.

Do what you feels is right :) Don't waste your time doing something that you don't see a sense of fulfilment in. IMHO maximising the HSC requires you to do the things you enjoy :) If you do enjoy chem, I'm sure it'll work out :) It's never too late to start improving

At the moment I have 12 units. However, I think I would rather have 10 or 11 units for the rest of the year, so I'll probably drop SoR II to I. That's if the teachers allow me . If only I didn't have to do English I would drop that crap in a heart beat.

tbh i don't even like chem. i don't even like school. it stresses me out too much and nothing I learn is of any importance except like multimedia and modern history (cos i think history is important and interesting :p )

I'm doing 11 units, though two are extensions which means at least one will count (but both probably will considering my chem marks lol) so that's a little concerning but eh with the amount of frees I have I should be okay
