hey guys, i am a first year and i am just wondering if there are any good places to meet other new people? everyone there seem to know a lot of people before they came, but no one from my high school went to unsw (yes i went to a pretty shit hs). i am so sick and tired of just waiting through my hours of breaks each day. i met some people at my tutorials but none of them have the same breaks as i do. can someone help? any advice is appreciated :)

Second year is MUCH better.

In first year you're just part of the massess.

If you're having trouble making friends, in tutes, just start a random conversation
"Hey how did you go in that test ? "

.....

"Yeah i found it hard too, who is your lecturer ?"

......

"Yeah man my lecutrer sucks...."

.....

"What course you doing"

viola you'll be that dudes friend for the rest of the semester and beyond.

When I was in first year, the main place that I made new friends was in physics tutorials and labs. Labs in particular were good because you have to work together to get the experiments done. Bio or chem would also be good for the same reason.

Maths tutes on the other hand were just about useless for socialising. Education tutes were better, but most of the people you meet there you never meet anywhere else again.

Btw, for all these people having trouble meeting other people, what degree are you doing?

Sign up for one of the revues and if so, only consider doing cast or tech as you'll make the most friends that way.

You can do Yellow Shirts later on in the year as well if you're interested.

You really gotta throw yourself out there at university. The more you do it, the more friends you'll make and the less shit your time spent there will be.

LOL so true. You'd be amazed at how many people pay out the lecturers. Great way to strike up a convo.

1)Go to lectures and start a convo with the person sitting next to you.
2) Go to ASB or Law and study and start conversations like

"hey, do you know how to do this q"

Go from there.

in engineering, you will have comrades automatically for group projects.

When I was in first year, the main place that I made new friends was in physics tutorials and labs. Labs in particular were good because you have to work together to get the experiments done. Bio or chem would also be good for the same reason.

EXACTLY FUCK its not that hard to make new friends you know
It isn't but erm is right, at least in the first year.

I think I said it in the past though, if you're asian, you do com/law/med and you went to selective school, chances are, you'll probably end up knowing half the people in your faculty anyway?
