If I was marking this, I would give it full marks.
If you want to 'improve' it, I guess you should focus more on the fact that perfect squares cannot have a difference of 1 as that is the heart of the solution.

Having problems with this question, so easy, but can't get the answer.

The sum of 50 terms of an arithmetic series is 249 and the sum of 49 terms of the series is 233. Find the 50th term of the series.

In the syllabus it falls under 'The Quadratic Polynomial and the Parabola'
