$=\frac{2x}{|x|(1+x^2)}.$

Alternatively, you could try substituting $$x=\tan\frac{\theta}{2}$$ and use the half-angle formula to make the differentiation easier to do. Should yield the same answer though

$$ For what values of $ \theta, |(3\sin\theta-\cos\theta)+k(\cos\theta-2\sin\theta)|\leq1 $ is true for all real $ -1\leq k\leq1 ?$

How do you work with the domain and know it's undefined? I solved to only get $\frac{2}{1+x^{2}}$

Well, I said the derivative was defined for $-1<\frac{1-x^2}{1+x^2}<1$ , and x can't be 0 in this domain (otherwise the fraction would EQUAL 1, which we can't have), so the derivative is undefined at x = 0.

In general, $y = \cos ^{-1} f(x)$ is defined for $-1\leq f(x)\leq +1$ , and the derivative $y^\prime$ is defined for $-1< f(x) < +1$ .

Also, my solution has $\frac{x}{|x|}$ in it. This is equal to 1 when x is positive, and -1 when x is negative, so it agrees with your book's/source's answer.

yes quite so. and a comment, the function x/|x| (which usually called sign function or Heaviside function) has no definition and is discontinuous at x=1, this justfifies that y' does not exist at x=0.

I only just started my 3U Maths preliminary course, so I can't yet answer many of the questions here, but I do have one for you guys if you want it. It was a challenge question on a class test today. The answer surprised me.

Simplify:

$\left(1+\frac{45}{x-8} - \frac{26}{x-6}\right)\left(3-\frac{65}{x+7}+\frac{8}{x-2}\right)$

How about:

Assuming k! > 2^k (and k>=4)

(k+1)! = (k+1).k! > 2.2^k = 2^(k+1)

[BTW, "n=k+1 is true" doesn't mean too much. Not that the examiners are going to care, but it should be "true for n=k+1 (when true for n=k)" ]

$\frac{d}{dx}sinx = \lim_{h \to 0}\frac{sin(x+h)-sinx}{h}$

Expand and simply and use

$\ \ \ \lim_{x \to 0}\frac{sinx}{x} = 1\\ \\ \\ \lim_{x \to0}\frac{cosx-1}{x}=0$

To get the answer

How many possible arrangements are there if all the students sit together, all the teachers sit together and none of the students sit next to the teachers?

That's kind of wrong, since your denominator "x" approaches 0 too.
