Hi!
I'm just a bit confused about two things for HSC Economics.
1. What essay skeletons do I have to make + what is the purpose of them?
2. What essay topics are tested in the hsc? Is it randomised?
for question 2, my answer would be the exact same as the person above, it is incredibly randomised and usually they tend to also skew a bit towards whats happening in the economy itself (to basically differentiate b5 and b6 students since higher range students are able to analyse current economic conditions and situations to a great degree).
for question 1: purpose of essay plans is to make ur life easier for studying eco. I've heard of people who just memorise these 20 ish essays and walk into the exam and still pull a 90+ if not 95. eco by far is the hardest social science to nail, as its just so content heavy that u get lost and confused as to what u need to study and what u dont.
Here is a list of plans/skeletons/essays that people usually have for HSC Eco:
Topic 1:
- Globalisation - factors influencing it, start of Topic 1 really.
- International Orgs, Eco Forums, Trading Blocs
- Case Study - usually china but depends on the country u do.
Topic 1 + Topic 2 together - protection, this is by far one of the easiest essays to nail as long as u cover what the question asks. Doing an essay plan for this that covers both topics makes ur life easier when it comes to memorising.
Topic 2:
- Trade, composition, value of Aus financial flows.
- Balance of Payments
- Exchange rates - causes and effects.
Topic 3: EACH essay I mention here must have theory, causes, effects, and policies to address it (AKA fiscal, monetary and micro)
- Eco Growth
- Unemployment
- Inflation
- Distribution of Income
- Environment
For external stability, have a sorta paragraph or two ready on how it works, effects, and how policies are used to manage it. Usually external stability comes either under topic 2 or comes under a policy (micro, macro) essay, where its joined with another eco objective such as inflation.
Topic 4:
Fiscal - how it works, implementation, pros and cons
Monetary - how it works, implementation, pros and cons
Micro - make sure to have a variety of reforms here
Labour Market - same as micro
For all topic 4 essays, they are usually heavily linked to topic 3. ENSURE that u have a theory para ready for all policies (AKA how they work) as this para is pivotal to place in a topic 3+4 essay question after ur intro.
hope this helps!
