Monetary benefits of Uni
White Rabbit said:
They just saved themselves thousands.
Have a look at the recent Ross Gittins in the SMH.
Adjusting for opportunity cost and inflation, he calculates
that the return on investment of the cost of going to uni
is between 14 to 16 %
No, they did not save thousands.
They lost hundreds of thousands ( at least ) in forgone additional future earnings.
My dad earns $ 150 / hour ( doctor in general practice )
How much would he earn if he had not gone to uni ?
$ 20 - $ 25 / hour ?
That is ( 150 - 25 ) * 40 * 50 = 250,000 $ extra in just one year .
In a 20 - 40 year work life , that is between 5 to 10 million extra that he would
not see a cent of if he had not gone to university.
And even that is not the point.
He gets to do something that he enjoys and is very good at.
He also gets to help children and men and women daily.
At Christmas time, we never buy cakes because we are inundated with
cakes and cookies and chocolates and gifts from grateful patients.
