so, if i go to uni does that mean i'll get a job very easily?

Depends on the degree you're doing.
Obviously if you're doing something in which graduates are in high demands, like, I dunno, Medical Science or Commerce or Pharmacy, getting a job should be fine as long as you don't barely pass.

um as far as i've heard its hard to get a job after doing medical science.. only jobs i've heard are out there are things like genetic counsellors... and if ppl do medical science looking at transferring to med - you are more likely to get into med after doing nursing than med. sci (that comes from someone who does selections)

Well, a lot of it depends upon how well you do at university, whether you do work experience and get involved etc as well. But it's not as if going to uni will guarantee you a job, it improves your chances in most fields but you still have to work for it.

as far as medical science goes, it seems to me that after we finish we have a 95% emplyment rate, considering in pathology departments alone there will be a few medical scientists, in every hospital in australia almost, then theres private clinics, then theres respriatory clinics, then theres research and IVF ect.

and in the next 10 year the demand for medical scientist is going to go through the roof due to the aging population (aging population = more current medical scientists retiring plus many new opeining due to the increased need for medical services to catter to the higher number of elderly.)

so yeah i think im pretty safe

They generally require, at minimum, a completed Masters or PhD in a relevant field.

What degree? With something specialist like Medicince, then yes. With something generalist like Arts, probably much harder.

if u graduated when the IT bust occured u were screwed. a lot of family friends suffered during that time and a lot set up their own businesses because they couldnt find something decent.

Of course it's easy to get jobs, in fact if you finish uni you will have every big company send hired goons to attend the graduation ceremony to abduct all the graduates. In some places they abduct you as you leave your final exam :rofl:

Does every person who finishes uni get a job in their field? no way. Do they get *a* job? sure unless they want to stay on the dole with a HECS debt. There are jobs (packing shelves, checkout operator, service station attendant) and then there are jobs (office, professional related t the field you studied) which job you get depends on you and your situation.

well the thing is ... nurses clinical skills are impressive vs med sc who are just science grads.....

both are 3 yrs..
i think nursing is better considering that ppl who do GAMSAT arent realli advantaged since the sciences that are examined arent really beyond a 1st yr level anyways.. its really all about speed during the exam

problem with medical sciences.. is that some medical doctors love applying for the same jobs as research scientist and taking academic chairs cos it helps certain professional qualifications.. its just not a quick route for becoming a scientist

well a doctor (with just a straight MBBS) isnt going to go toe to toe with a PhD with a biomedical background, the only doctors that really do 'lab' research are the ones who pick up a BSci or a BmedSci anyhow.


and yes ill be the first to addmitte nurse clinical skills are awsome. but a MedSci will whip their asses when it comes to the science behind medicine (we'll you expect that seeing as nurses dont do chem/physiology at nearly as deep a level)

and yeah what about pharmacy, thats probably a better bet then either medSci or nursing? you have an extreemly detailed knowledge of the human body and its interactions to drugs, plus your trained in patient councling, plus your basicly almost as qualified as a doctoar anyhow (haha all the med students are going to stab me for saying that)

Nope.. lolz alot of the advanced training programs lik surgery... now "recommend" research publication... so lots of medics do the research.. and also do research rotations ... where u do the supervised training..
generally i was just comparing the bachelors with the bachelors .. not the doctorate... i.e the MBBS vs BMedSc..

I just think it from the ppl in nursing and those in med sc.. they are very different.. nurses tend to think very practically.. and med sci ppl well they think more in theory.. i just bank on nursing cos there is guaranteed employment

that said.. ppl with health sciences as their predegree usually end up at grad med... but its not a hard and fast rule either ..

Pharmacy is good too ..only they don't really do pathology.. which the BMedSc and the BNursing do.. and medicine is realli about disease..
also their level of pharmacology is pretty impressive but its not always practical for medicine..

Degrees in Health Sciences especially the ones with clinical application (Physio, Speech path, radiographers, etc ) will pretty much guarantee u a job..
