Hey.

I'm scared about what my HSC will be.

I've settled on my university course of choice being a Bachelor of Science at Newcastle, for which I require 66.15 (-4 points for being a regional student), so I don't have tremendous needs to get high marks, but scary enough to worry me.

I do:
Adv. English - 53.3% Not too sure
Biology 82.4% 5/45 ~
Chemistry 73.9% 3/20 ~
Physics 71.3% 7/14
General Maths 80.7% 1/60~
SOR I 78.3% 13/103

School rank: 73

The average marks of each subject are listed above, not including trials (not taking into account weighting).

Will I be able to get this? I'm terrified about advanced English bringing me down too far. I'm turning around in English skills but ATAR calculator says I will scale to less than 30, and that's terrifying.

What's your school rank and your ranks inside school. The actual marks are semi-meaningless. For example, at our school, people that get 50% in english would still get a band five overall

Added school rank and my ranks.

Average for the last assessment was 8 and I got 9, and average for the one before was about 10 and I got 13.

English marks:
38/60 (below average)
8/20 (below average)
9/20 (above average)
13/20 (above average)

I guess my main question is, can such a bad English result make me unable to achieve that, even with my other ranks/marks?

Assuming the worst case scenario (i.e. that you are coming last english), I would say you're looking at 75ish. I dont think 65 will be much of a problem for you. Entering raw marks into an ATAR calculator is pointless, as raw internal marks are moderated by BOS.

Considering the average ATAR is about 70, and there are about 700 school in the state, and you are coming 5th, 3rd, 1st, 7th and 13th at a school in the top 80 - you really shouldn't worry. You'll be fine.

I think you will get in the low 70s even bombing English. You have good ranks at a good school for many of your subs
