yup you should definitely drop out.

Or maybe you should actually put in some effort and see how far you actually go before coming up with this sort of attitude.

ummm you never know how the hsc will turn out. Now is not a time for predicting and obsessing, its a time to learn and improve. You have still got a long time ahead of you. A lot of people in 2008 have surprised themselves, for good or worse. A good price of advice my prelim chem teacher told us b4 he went to do hsc marking was "never let the fear of striking out stop you from playing the ball game". Many people who lose heart will do badly, and those who keep going no matter how hard it may seem, will succeed.
"give the world the best and the best may come to you"

its not a matter of scaling, its if the subjects are for YOU. Your teachers will say to do the subjects you enjoy, and i advise you take this piece of advice seriously. You will see exactly what this advice means come trial and post HSC. HSC courses arent only there for your uai, you take the knowledge with you outside of school, and it will define who you are and your university choices.
Ask yourself:
1. are you good at these subjects?
2. Do you enjoy them?
3. Are you being realistic and doing subjects taht you can handle?
Too many times i have known people who choose subjects purely on scaling, and bomb out. Trust me, Maths ext 2 was not for me, and by term 3, term 2 even, it had taken its toll. It was so hard getting myself to push through the finish line with ext 1 and 2 maths on my belt. I was lucky that the mark i DID get scaled into the 90's. But it was hard, dont try to make anything more difficult for yourself than it needs to be.
On the otehr hand, year 12 is also a time to raise the bar and set challenges. Sometimes the harder you push, the faster you will roll. Try 2-4 units of subjects you think will find challenging, but also you take interest in. BUT, id advise not doing anything too different from the preliminary hsc, or it will be VERY hard.

To begin with: get a grip on yourself!

HSC is about YOU. It's about you trying your best to fulfil your potential. If you don't have a firm belief in yourself to begin with, how can you face countless problems that you are about to come across in near future?

Calm down, and slowly review your study plan. Form one if you have to. Take things one at a time. You still have 10 months to go and it's not too late. As a matter of fact, I haven't started yet and many peopl are in the same boat.

And take all the advices presented by others above.

Good luck.

Primary teaching hey? I'm aiming for that too, and seriously you only need 70s for some universities here, for example UOW. You don't need 90 for primary teaching - I think the highest it gets is 87 or something at USYD. Check the UAC book to see for sure.

There's no point burning yourself out and getting too stressed. The HSC's one test, and it'll happen when it happens. The best thing to do is to prepare for it and not take it heaps seriously (or so I've been told). Just try to stay calm 'cause if you get all frazzled you'll make yourself sick :( and that would be bad.

As for studying, I haven't really started yet either. And neither have a lot of people. In the words of Mika: relax, take it easy. It's the holidays! I'm not doing any homework at all until after Christmas. Why ruin a five-week break stressing about school when we're not even there?

Stay positive and good luck! :)

i want to do primary teaching too, i'm sure u'll get higher than 40, also it depends on scaling...

i expected to get 50, and get a crappy uai, i got 67.95 which is still pretty crap, but with bonus points i can get into my course hopefully.

most important of all: never give up!
