u know how in 19th c there was a decline in religion, rise in secularity and humanist values?
what do u call the thing where people were starting to become less dependent on God and more dependent on themselves?
Is it "self-help" or something? or is there another word...

(eg when describing Nora's handling of the situation, without seeking God first)

Self determination.... it's a great term I throw it in to my essays all the time lol.
