My only insight (and it's not helpful, and I don't recommend using it) is this:-
The concept of the imaginative journey does not exist. It was made up by the Board of Studies, has no definition. They are making it up as they go along. Therefore, do likewise.
Highly pissed off, tired, and with 600 words to go on an assignment due tomorrow.

an imaginative journey came be a number of things but you can say that every story of a journey is imaginative because it aims to take the reader on a journey through their own imaginaton. (did that make sense?)
and um they're normally involved with fantastical ideas and places.
