i was looking through ruse 04 trial paper for HMX1 and i got stuck with some of the integration questions.

For the first one, just expand and integrate as usual.
For the second one, split the numerator you get two expressions. The first one can be integrated by substitution/reverse chain rule and the second one is just a standard integral.

I thought this was 4u it looked pretty straightforward but for 3u your given the u-sub right so you don't need to worry so much for the second one right?

If you're struggling with the idea of binomial expansions, you can treat the expansion like this: (this is how I first did it before knowing binomial)


Thus, you're just using the simple perfect squares expansion that you learnt in 5.3.

Funnily enough, it is also a binomial expansion, but you don't need to treat it that way.

Just use the binomial theorem. Much nicer and less mucking around.
