Hey, this is my first ever post on BoS so i hope I've posted this in the right place :jump:

Um,I go to a pretty well ranked school in Sydney. I'm looking into a couple of courses at Sydney Uni and UTS which require an ATAR of 80 - 90? Is it difficult to get?

Standard English
General Maths
Business Studies
Studies of Religion 1
Ancient History
Modern History

Sorry i couldn't include year ranks. Thanks!

*Top 100 school
*I'm not naturally smart, so would this mean i have to study ALOT?

As long as you rank well in your classes considering your 'low scaling' subjects 90 should be within your grasp.

Generally speaking, Standard English and General Maths are low-ranking subjects because so many people do them. So you will be competing against a large bulk of other students as I would think, they are the two most common subjects. So you need marks 80 and above to rank decently, if you get high 80's you will go well, but then again if you get over 85% in every subject, you're almost guranteed to get a good ATAR regardless, unless everyone doing all your subjects magically gets 90+ this year.

It's fairly easy if you at least half-try. Given your low scaling subjects however, you might have to put a little more effort in perhaps to counter that

but about top 17% of candidates get above 90 atar, so i guess there would be like 30-40% of ppl getting above 80

This.

I reckon it would be hard to get 90+ but I know some people from selective schools who are pretty much given 99+.
this is very much the case, unfortunately

a well ranked school isn't a top 100 school, more like a top 50 imo

anyway, half of your subjects scale quite well and the other half is a bit of a let down,

but the effect of scaling diminishes if you do well in all of them

so get good ranks and you'll be on track

If you do well, you will get a good ATAR regardless of scaling. Remember this.
