Will markers have different expectations or marking criteria for students doing Standard, Adv, ext1, etc?

should I write "English AOS" in the exam booklet so that they won't know which course I'm doing, to make sure that subjective marking and expectation doesnt come into play?

im not really 100% sure bout this, but, arent they different papers? i mean, i know ext 1 eng is a totally different paper to the 2U eng. im assuming that the standard and advanced papers are different - doesnt it say "Advanced English Paper" on the front? i thought they did mark to different criteria - but ur not meant 2 be disadvantaged. if ur doin advanced english ur supposed 2 b beta at it than if u do standard eng.

In the HSC exam you do a common paper 1.
And in my school we also do a common paper.

aha. have checked now. u r right - paper 1 is common, paper 2 is separated. i dunno dude, i guess if they're marking them all together then they maybe they dont have different criteria? although u have already indicated which course u r doing, so maybe they divide them up at centres? im intrigued - shall have 2 ask markers. totally never occured 2 me before - what made u think of it?

I don't know... the idea just suddenly came to my mind

anyway, in my trial (which was after I started this thread), we were told to write "English Paper 1".
I don't think they mark them differently, but.... writing Advanced might set a higher expectation in the marker's mind. maybe...
and writing ESL might encourage easy marking... I think ESL students sit a common paper too.

ok, i found out (finally...): they deliberately mark AOS paper 1 together. there is no separate criteria. as happens in 2U and 3U maths, they sue the results form this paper to aid in scaling for the modules paper. it makes no difference whether you put adv or stand on the front of your paper - they dont check and, besides, the school has to submit to board which course u do to enable their tracking comparison.

our teacher told us NOT to write what course [i.e. standard/advanced/ext1/2] because it is a common paper, like many of you have said.
when you sit the common paper, you actually have to write that it is English AOS because it is not infact a standard/advanced/ext1/2 labelled paper.

Yep it's marked the same regardless of the course you do. We were told the exam procedures and stuff a couple of weeks ago and here is what I gather happens with english.

You all go into the exam room in alphabetical order as a year group not split into classes (standard, advanced etc.) and then at the end of the exam they collect all the papers and put them in bundles tthe way you were sitting in the exam (ie. there isn't a seperate bundle for standard, advanced ext. 1). Yeah so basicaally they can't tell what course you did and your marked in your school group in amongst the other course.

Hope that helped.

i would think the opp. that eng adv might make the marker think the person is good and thus give them a rasied mark rather than having higher expectastions ..
