First bit of an IT course is either really boring or really fun because many people will already have self-taught skills but not have the proof in order to get recognition for it. TAFE is all about ticking boxes that you are competent at the tasks at hand, so some time is spent at the start quickly ticking some boxes. After a few weeks it should settle down and you will actually start the learning process (there will always be some people jetting ahead but try not to get phased by it).

Age doesn't mean crap once you're in TAFE, Uni etc.

You'll meet plenty of peole from all walks of life and different backgrounds and ages. The older people are better because they're more mature and dedicated to the course and helpful.
