Is it true that if u live in a high socio-economical area u r automatically ineligible for uni scholarships regardless of ur grades? Every single scholarship (from various unis) that i have checked said that one requirement is to be living in a low socio-economical area

(im just check scholarships from now to have a clearer vision of my future at uni in case anyone wants to start the ‘ur in yr 10 why does it matter’ or something like that conversation)

all unis rlly (keeping my options opened) but they all require u to live in a low socio-economical area
USYD came to our school to give a talk last term.
I think it was
--> if you get dux there's a scholarship for it
--> if you get band 6 in math and eng adv there's a scolarship too
i think there are others, i can't remember on the top of my head. I'll do some research tmr!

oh ok THANKS bc i live in a 'high' socio-economical area (or above the latte line) n i dont want that to be the reason im not allowed/qualified for a scholarship (that would be so annoying)

bro js cause you live somewhere doesn't mean you're ineligible for scholarships, though there are specific ones that are reserved for aboriginls, people w disabilities nd those who live in low sea etc. most are open for all no matter your residence, js cause you live near the city or som doesnt necessarily mean you're rich.

no you’re not ineligible for all of them but depending on the uni a lot of them are targeted at people from lower socioeconomic areas (shoutout usyd, my friends got mysydney but I didn’t)

Thats what im saying bc im like 100% NOT rich so for me to miss out on a scholarship bc of where i live thats crazy

but yh its just that all the scholarships i have looked at have that requirement, any scholarships that dont have that requirement?

no, there are scholarships for academic performance, leadership etc
there are also a lot of scholarships for low socioeconomic areas since unis want to have a lot of people from those areas attending (and also those people are at financial disadvantage so obviously it’s helpful if they get a scholarship)

you’re preaching to the choir man I literally missed out on 10k/year because the suburb of my farm wasn’t low enough eventhough the town was

ik the system is stupid but if you feel like you are actually financially disadvantaged try for adjustment factors otherwise don't stress abt not being financially disadvantaged it bc there is no point.

you can get scholarships AND adjustment factors via exceptional academic and extracurricular achievements (high atar, dux of school, competitive athletes, school captain etc.). and adjustment factors are handed out like candy if you get band 5/6s in some unis. thre are some women in stem ones i think but im not very sure

once you get into uni you can apply for scholarships while in uni and that is less competitive, you dont need to be financially disadvantaged for those as well
