Muslims will claim islam is a religion of peace.

Now obviously a reading of the koran will show this to be patently be untrue, this has already been discussed at length. I'm not talking about this.

what I will say is, the sort of people who will make a big deal about calling islam peaceful, the ones who call themselves 'moderates', do not deny the existence of heaven and hell.

Which I find kind of funny.
If the Koran is accurate, BILLIONS of people are spending ETERNITY in agony, simply for not worshipping Allah, or for a myriad of victimless "sins".
Although they'll never make a point of talking about this, this is actually what they (necessarily) believe.

Usually, they're Islamophiles who want to seem politically incorrect and know very little about Islam, and somehow, they refuse to blame Islam for anything that goes on in the Middle East. "That's CULTURE, not religion, Islam is peaceful, Islam treats women well". Right. How can a religion be so predominant in a region and have absolutely no bearing on how its citizens behave?

Also, a lot of Islamophilic scholars are folks who were raised Christian. It's a nice little social ideal called "the noble savage". It's like when we look at islander tribes and think oh wow, they're so simple, so family oriented, so beautiful.. but really they're cannibals. It's quite easy to favour Islam if you know little about it, or if you need an argument against Christianity.

a) will be proud of the fact that muhammad was an illiterate violent warlord but at the same time tell you it is a peaceful religion
b) actually believes: 1. that it is a peaceful religion and is so blinded and thinks that it is everyone elses fault that muslims are violent, or 2. they only say it is a peaceful religion to try and patch divides and promote the idea that it is the same as all other religions etc.

I have read the Quran and i am a Muslim myself. Nowadays Islam has become a barrier in front of the western politics, just the way the Soviet was a barrier few years back. Islam would've not been a barrier if there were not countries like Iran. We have countries like Saudi Arabia, who on the other side, do not even oppose the west. As a result, you have the western world trying to give a bad image to Islam as a whole, and then you have scholars from Saudi Arabia trying to explain real Islam to you by diminishing Iran's position in the world. And amazingly, thats what the west like. Clearly the west's political ideas and systems are much different to the Islamic. But why is that Saudi Arabia's only-apparent extremist Islamic methods match that of the west's and Iran sits on another stone completely different. ^^ thats to tell you whose with who, and who is in fact representing Islam. So you don't listen to every scholar that comes on TV and think he represents the reality of Islam. Because the TVs and the media we are influenced in Australia do not bring proper scholars from Iran, but that of the backstreets of Saudi Arabia who only know how to scream "we are misunderstood" and don't say why or how...and they want to kill you, because they are misunderstood. Funny situation.

Islam literally translates to Peace, and it offers by far the most pluralistic and tolerant world view of all religions (including Atheism), not only does Islam teach us to be accepting of diversity and peace, but it directly advocates us to seek new knowledge, Islamic scholars invented modern algebra, geometry, astronomy, etc,..and not because the scholars just happened to be Islamic, but because they where directly inspired by the Holy Koran.

SO instead of regurgitating the slogans beamed down into your little jar-head by tabloid propaganda, why don't you actual open your mind and learn about what Islam really teaches, you'll soon learn that it has nothing to do with terrorism or oppression and everything to do with peace and love and science.
