Well, in that case, who's up for going to union court on our Wi-Fi enabled laptops and using our own quota's up until 12am of a night? :p

For a laptop you would need a 802.11g wireless adapter eg a PCMCIA card like this: http://www.arc.com.au/?NWCWLGCBE2.

Some of the college people may be able to give you an idea of whether it will work in the colleges - my gut says no because of the construction materials used and various 'shadows' they cast.

You'd be better off sharing a wireless Iburst connection with a few friends, which will cost you around $20 a month each. However, you can't use it if you're a gamer, because it isn't a constant connection - and will flicker on and off if the weather is bad.

$20 a month! I'm not that much of an internet addict! am i crazy, or does it seem that if i were to check my emails each day, use msn and perhaps one or two other things, let's say 20megs a day, i would be paying 20x$0.07 for internet access?

I thought they used your ANU quota? It would make sense because you have to login to use the wireless service.

Eh. Well it's a fibre optic connection, isn't it? Even with users sharing it, I imagine the speed would be blindingly fast. So it's not so much not worth it as "I don't want super fast connection, just a fast one with lots of bandwidth".

Does anybody know if Unwired came good on their 2004 promise to bring access to Canberra? That could work.

The lines don't allow you to use dial-up or broadband.

No the internet network is seperate to the phone system.

Its because of the old PABX system they use for the phones...
