Journalist
I wouldn't say going in to a BA Comm degree is foolish though. I've gotten a lot out of my degree, and if I don't find a journalism job when I graduate I will study something else after (looking like a law degree at this stage)- heaps of UTS journalism students get jobs in the industry so I don't think the degree of pessimism is really warranted. It is hard but if you really really want it you can make it. It may take a bit of time and they might not start out in their dream job, but that is probably the same in most careers.
The skills and knowledge you get from a communication degree are also really useful no matter what career you decide to pursue. A working knowledge of the media is very useful in today's society.
I am doing "something I like" first though- I think if you want to be a journalist and it isn't your passion or the thing you want to study the most then you may run in to problems.
