The current B Performance will no longer be comprised of three major strands: Acting, Dance Studies, Theatremaking. I'm unsure which version UAC print or web may be displaying. I'm in 1st year Theatremaking.

B Performance Theory & Practice beginning 2005 is a 4-year course with a 3rd year exit point. If compared with the previous version of this course, it will be most similar to the Acting strand -- indeed there is an audition and interview. It's generally 50/50 theory/practice.

The Acting strand now, which might give you an overview of how the new B Performance could be: teaching staff are also professionals in performance and theatre; and generally (from the envious perspective of a Theatremaking student) you'll be treated like godlings. There has been about four productions per year for Acting students, and the facilities are several thumbs up; I believe there are nine studio spaces for performance.

Since the course is run by the School of Contemporary Arts, it's expected that students will also be collaborating with the other creative arts students.

Generally if performance is your thing, then the resources are all there and good. I can't think of anything more to say unless you want to know something specific.

I don't know of any case of combining degrees at UWS that are not already combined (e.g B Arts/Teaching). The way to 'mix and match' seems to be via electives; any subject can be chosen for electives across UWS. The new B Performance allows 3 to 7 elective subjects depending on whether or not you choose both Performance Major and Hybrid Performance.

The B Communications course allows 4 to 8 depending on your specialisation choices.

thanks heaps.
would you know if you have to sing during the audition like UOW?
btw, which campus is it held at?
did you have to audition or submit in some type of portfolio when you applied?

For Theatremaking, only an interview was asked. In my case, I began in B Liberal Studies starting a Theatremaking major and transferred because I enjoyed it so much to B Performance-Theatremaking after one semester by grades (called Guaranteed Internal Course Transfer). Since I was already studying the course regardless of degree title, an interview wasn't necessary.

The Acting strand had asked for a classic/script audition plus a form of voice audition which could entail singing. It's unlikely that a portfolio would be asked of applicants, even for the new B Performance degree.

Check the handbook entry here
http://handbook.uws.edu.au/HBOOK/course.asp?course=1619.1
and contact our head of program for more information. He'll be able to answer all your queries about the performance course and its audition.

The course is held at the Penrith campus at Werrington. Your electives can be studied on any campus subject to available resources.
