It's not as prestigious as the sandstone universities, but it will still entitle you to apply for a license to practice as a solicitor.

I have heard of budget cuts to the law faculty, and that many law electives were slashed...
then they decided to give out free ipads to all the first year students...

Either way, it's up to you.

that's kind of the case with all universities in Australian at the moment...

don't want to sound racial or say anything which is discriminatory and I certainly don't intend too, but I can say this, the breadwinners (International Students) are less encouraged to study in Australia (Due to the high Australian Dollar)... International students: A - Pay full fee, B - pay more than a domestic student... the math is pretty simple, fewer students who pay full fee = less money (which equals budget cuts)...

there is also the shift to things like online study, etc...

I guess this pretty much applies to any international students in any countries. So according to you, they are all "less encouraged to study [overseas]" and should stay in their home countries??

No.. his talking about the fact that the AUD is currently strong; so international students would rather flock to XYZ, where currency is cheaper.
Although there are other factors to take into account, including fears of being victims to violence and so forth.

for the price: eg: uni fees, cost of living, etc... an international student can go to the US, UK etc and do a degree there which would be more reputable... take your pick a shitty uni in the land of oz, or, a university like Harvard, Cambridge, etc...

Well not all international students can go to the US/UK because of their marks or adequate referrals. For Australia the standards are much lower for entry.

The whole 'what university is better' is a load of crap. It might have mattered 40 years ago with boarding schools, colleges etc filled with WASPS but lets face it - USyd and UNSW are primarily filled with first generation migrants (asians, arabs) and new money who wouldn't know a macclesfield from a spitalfield.

And anyway, do you really want to be working for a firm that recruits on such a basis? Top Tier isn't exactly fun work.

So
I'm positive I'm going to UWS or Notre Dame

Is it possible to land a job with a top-tier firm?

I don't know. It depends on:
- Grades (D average I'd say for top tier)
- Extra curricula
- Who you know
- Appearance (do you have big boobs/pecs? know how to dress CBD?)
- Application (whether the computer picks up relevant key words and whether its eye catching, your CL/resume is appropriately original whilst remaining conservative)
- Social skills

If some blonde hardbody applied to my firm with a D average, 3 scholarships, played water polo for Australia at the Commonwealth games and whose father was wing on my rugby team and she went to UWS I'd probably ask her to forward my resume and look after her application myself.

If I had a UNSW student with a pass average and two fails, no extra curricula bar a BOS platinum account who showed up to my office in a YD suit and pointy elf shoes who spent the whole interview weezing from asthma I'd have him escorted out.

In short, going to UWS might be seen at worst as having a five second handicap in a marathon, you're up against it but certainly not out of the race.
