Ours wasn't a court thing, izzy (well, I was in first year in 2010). Ours was a case note of a case, where you got a case; had to identify the judges (1 mark), the plaintiff (1 mark), the defendant (1 mark), the obiter (4 marks), the ratios (8 marks) etc etc.
Was worth 30% or something ridiculous.
In any case, ickle first years - after first semester, you'll pretty much be doing obiter/ratio in your head for every single case you read, instead of dedicating 10 days to figuring out the obiter/ratio of the one assigned case.
