Erm. Was this policy ditched two or so weeks ago? Or, maybe the Greens and Libs said they would both oppose or something...?

I vaguely remember thinking that we didn't have to worry about this internet censorship in the immediate future.
Greens, Libs and Xenophon are against it, Fielding unknown, Nats unknown.

Even if Fielding and Nats join Labour it's a tie vote, and tie votes in the Senate = failed bills.

I wouldn't call it the end of Internet censorship, though. It could be a nice trial by fire though to harden Australians against the idea if Rudd tries again in the future. I suspect it will simply never come up for a vote though until Rudd is sure he has the numbers, which he may well after next election...

Would have been. Either way, it doesn't appear to have been blocked, though it's on the blacklist.
If this is actually the real ACMA blacklist, then these are all the sites that are going to be blocked under the rudd filter. ACMA can't do shit now anyway, unless the websites are hosted in australia.

Aye - if it fails in legislation, he might try to implement it in regulation instead.

People are surprised this list included more than just child porn?

It was obvious they were always going to include all porn, there's well established precedents in video and book legislation.

Gambling is necessary to secure Xenophon's vote.

Hey I just realised that we (and everyone else on the internets) now have the links to hundreds of sites with child pornography and other such illegal material. Uh oh.

It would seem it's not just Labor's filter we have to be concerned about.

The current censorship system that is in place is outrageous also.

Plus according to the EFF the filter will slow internet speeds by between 60 -80%!

And the filter is completely ineffective as a VPN can be rented for as little as $5 a month. So only the innocent will suffer the 60-80% cut in speed while people who bypass the fillter with a VPN will glide right through.

The only support the bill has is from the stupid right-wing fundamentalist doshe bag christians (as opposed to the nice intellegent left wing non-fundamentalist christians)

If this passes I'm moving to china so I don't have to deal with as much censorship.
