Beyond Godlike
i heard on the news that some local government is trialing "M plates" for mature drivers [those over 80]. the reasoning behind these M plates is so that other drivers notice the "Mature" is infact old, with slow reaction times and memory not being as good [ alot of them were "forgeting" to indicate, didnt know how to use roundanouts, forgetting various "minor" road rules, such as stopping at a stop sign instead of cruising through at 40km, not to mention the factor of speed, with them driving exstremely slowly and dangeriously on high speed roads].
the M plates are displayed in a similar way to L and P plates except that there are no restrictions placed upon them. despite this the local old people are outraged claiming that it is an embarassment to display these plates.... what i dont see is if it is such as embarassment to wear a simple blue M with no restrictions, then shouldnt i as as a red P plater with speed restrictions and talk about passanger, curfew and horsepower restrictions feel even more embarassment?
alot of the old people were refusing to put on the plates, if only P platers could simply refuse to wear them without consequences then the world would be a different place
anyways discuss this new idea, is it a good idea? a stupid idea? are old people a danger on our roads?
